Heimann Storch was born into a Jewish family on 11 November 1876, probably in Gdansk (Polish: Gdańsk). In Marienburg (Polish: Malbork), he married Rosa Behrendt. The couple first moved to Bukowitz (Polish: Bukowiec), where their two daughters Hilde and Eva were born in 1913 and 1914 respectively.
From 1922 to 1929, the family lived in Frankfurt an der Oder before finally settling in Fürstenwalde. At today’s Eisenbahnstraße 147, Rosa and Heimann ran a shop for ladies’ and men’s wear. Heimann was also a sales representative for Pfaff sewing machines, as well as an active member of the Fürstenwalde Jewish community. For a short time, the Storch family lived in the house of Betty and Moritz Groß at Frankfurter Straße 18, which had been converted into a “Jews’ house”.
Heimann Storch was deported to the Warsaw Ghetto on 2 April 1942. His wife Rosa was probably on the same transport. Nothing further is known about their fate. Their daughter Hilde managed to escape from the “Third Reich” to England. In 1943, their younger daughter Eva was deported together with her husband Josef Prager to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, where they were murdered.
